Actsmart Business Sustainability Awards recognise efficient Canberra business.

A number of Canberra businesses have been recognised for a commitment to saving water, conserving energy and reducing waste.

Minister for Environment Simon Corbell presented 11 Actsmart Business Sustainability Awards to organisations from across the territory.

Mr Corbell said he hoped sustainability measures adopted by businesses and organisations recognised with these awards would inspire other groups to join the government’s Actsmart programs.

“Today’s awards tell the stories behind the inspiring initiatives of our local business community who are making Canberra more sustainable while cutting business costs at the same time,” he said.

“The positive contribution of local business is crucial in making Canberra and the region more sustainable and it’s really encouraging to see the number of businesses involved in Actsmart programs growing each year.”

Mr Corbell said the Actsmart Business Recycling program was underway at more than 750 sites throughout the ACT and Queanbeyan, allowing more than 40,000 staff to recycle in their workplace.

The Actsmart Business Energy and Water program had helped more than 330 small businesses reduce energy and water consumption, saving an average of $2,500 each.
